Relentless teams up with Salboy to deliver final phase of luxury mixed-use scheme in Manchester

Relentless has formed a JV with Salboy to deliver the final phase of the luxury St Michael’s scheme in Manchester city centre.

The 40-storey tower — designed by Hodder + Partners — will comprise 181 serviced residences, a 191-bed hotel and extensive amenity and leisure spaces for residents and guests.

They will front onto a new public square, which will incorporate local, national and international cuisines, along with a fully refurbished Sir Ralph Abercromby public house.

The project will also see the revitalisation of the underused streets surrounding the scheme.

Domis, Salboy’s dedicated construction partner, will support the JV with the delivery of phase two.

Initial works are due to start in January 2023, with the entire scheme expected to reach completion in 2026.

The final development aims to bring significant investment to Manchester and create an additional 1,800 jobs.

Relentless’ owner, Gary Neville, said his team’s drive never waned while working on the “complex and challenging” project over the past 15 years.

"Our aim with St Michael’s has always been to create a world-class destination in our city which celebrates our local passion, spirit and hospitality that delivers to a five-star international standard.”

Simon Ismail, managing director at Salboy, stated that the company is thrilled to take part in delivering the ambitious scheme and thanked Relentless for the opportunity.

“St Michael's is already raising expectations for what Manchester has to offer — now it's time for Salboy, Domis and Relentless to work together to make this development a reality, and deliver a destination at the sorts of international standards that all of Manchester can be proud of," he added.

Joanne Roney OBE, chief executive at Manchester City Council, described St Michael’s as an “ambitious development in an area of the city with huge potential.”

She added that the noteworthy level of investment, working partnership and the high-quality design of the development will present a new standard and mix of uses.

“The scheme will further help our recovery from the pandemic, while demonstrating our ability to deliver transformational regeneration projects in Manchester," Joanne said.
